The church in the West is having to cope with massive change, internally and externally, at many levels. The awareness that Christendom, the age of Christian dominance, has come to an end, to be replaced by an increasingly self-confident and self-determining secularism has long been with us. But that narrative is being rapidly overtaken by the alarming realisation that the planet is heading towards an ecological catastrophe. I argue that this has to be a central part of the prophetic narrative by which the church, as a priestly-prophetic new creation people, frames its mission.
